Two New Mexican Finds!
Two interesting new finds from Mexico: shattuckite and arsendescloizite.
The Milpillas mine has been wowing collectors for years, first with its azurites, then as the years progressed excellent examples of volborthite, malachite, cuprite, and brochantite were also recovered. The latest find from this mine has been shattuckite. Although the mineral was sometimes present in massive cabbing material such as the rock marketed as Sonora sunrise, this is the first time that actual, properly formed specimens have been recovered.
The second find comes from Ojuela, which continues to produce, albeit with a bit of miner/gang drama these days. Arsendescloizite was discovered at the Tsumeb Mine, but the best pieces came from a small find at Ojuela in the 1980's. These example may not have the same color, but are exceptionally rich and represent quite a rare opportunity to obtain the species.
