Bolivia Part 2
Another new find from the Kami Mine, the same location that produced the fluorapatites on the previous page. These specimens are plates of quartz, with a bright red coating of jeromite. Jeromite is an arsenic, selenium, sulfur glass-- it has no definite crystal structure and as such is not considered a mineral. Periously, I had only seen single small crystals with coatings of this material-- these new examples are especially rich by comparison. Admittedly, almost none are perfect-- there will be missing crystals here and there. A number of the pieces also had ferberite associations, the lustrous black crystals contrast nicely with the bright jeromite.
