CEC56 Galena, Seligmannite, Sphalerite on Quartz
Palomo Mine, Castrovirreyna Prov., Huancavelica Dept., Peru
7.1x 4.5x 3.0 cm

A great example of rare seligmannite on galena, associated with minor sphalerite on quartz.  The galenas are very well crystalized for any Peruvian locality, and are sprinkled with hundreds of tiny seligmannites that give a slight sparkle to the piece.

CEC59 Barite
Elk Creek, Meade Co., South Dakota, United States
7.4x 6.0x 7.4 cm
$56

*REPAIRED*

A nice, but repaired sample of barite from Elk Creek.  The price obviously takes this repair into account-- it's still a decent reference with a freestanding crystal from what has to be the most sought after of US barite localities.

CAC01 Orpiment
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
6.6x 5.0x 3.3 cm
$66

A decently sized reference sample of well crystalized orpiment form finds made years ago at the Quiruvilca Mine.  There is some damage, but I still consider it to be a pretty reference sample.

CAC04 Quartz var. Amethyst
Maharashtra State, India
5.1x 3.5x 1.9 cm
$48

A nice example of amethyst from this recent Indian find.  Amethyst is not new from the Deccan traps, but the pieces that have previously been found tended to be tightly packed clusters lining vugs-- very similar in appearance to the material from Brazil or Uruguay.  This find is notable for the slightly more elongated crystals, and distinctness of the clusters.  In particular, the spacing makes for a particularly beautiful contrast between the amethyst and the basalt matrix.  Not perfect, but a nice sample.

CAC08 Anatase
Kharan, Baluchistan, Pakistan
6.5x 4.5x 3.3 cm
$72

A nice example of lustrous anatase from Pakistan.  Prior to this find years ago, the only chance collectors really had to obtain a nice anatase was to wait for a good (and somewhat more expensive) Norwegian piece, or one of the very infrequent Swiss or Russian examples.  Thanks to this find, good lustrous crystals have become much more obtainable, and this is a decent example from the locality.

CAC11 Bournonite
Machacamarca District (Colavi District), Saavedra Province, Potosi Department, Boliviah
7.6x 5.0x 3.8 cm
$64

A nice sample of bournonite, with a single crystal nicely positioned on matrix.

CAC16 Calcite
Lavrion, Greece
7.0x 4.6x 3.5 cm
$52

A nice example of pointed calcites crystals from he ancient workings at Lavrion.  Oddly enough, as long as this locality has been worked  (literally thousands of years) Greek minerals have never been particularly common in the US.  This is a decent reference.

CAC17 Wardite
Rapid Creek, Yukon, Canada
8.3x 4.0x 1.7 cm
$58

A nice sample of decently sized wardite crystals on matrix, from a very remote locality in northern Canada.

CAC18 Rosasite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
9.1x 5.7x 2.5 cm
$66

A rich example of deeply colored rosasite, with small calcite rhombs, from a recent find at the Ojuela Mine.

CAC21 Barite
Silius, Sardenia, Italy
4.7x 2.7x 1.5 cm
$54

A nice example of smoky colored barite from a classic Italian locality.

CAC22 Calcite incl Marcasite
Leiping, Guiyang Co., Chenzhou, Hunan Prov., China
8.6x 5.2x 3.2 cm
$125

A beautiful example of calcite from Leiping-- this location is best known for its calcite twins, and this piece does not disappoint.  One side has a single larger cluster (I don't think it's quite a twin) and the back has several more.  Priced at $165 in my show stock.

CAC23 Lepidolite with Muscovite
Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov, Madagascar
5.3x 4.1x 1.4 cm
$60

A very unusual specimen, consisting of a mica book that is primarily muscovite with an outer layer composed of purple, lithium rich lepidolite.  I've seen a few pieces like this from Brazil, but this I pretty much the only such example that I've come across form Madagascar.

CAC24 Franckeite
Itos Mine, Oruro City, Oruro Dept., Bolivia
5.0x 4.5x 2.2 cm
$46

A rich sample of rare franckeite, from the Itos Mine.  This mine works the same orebody as the more famous San Jose Mine, but from a different part of the mountain.

Franckeite is a rare lead, tin antimony sulfosalt that is exceedingly rare from pretty much anywhere except Itos/ San Jose.  This one isn't perfect, but certainly a sizable reference piece.

CAC26 Apatite with Arsenopyrite (Repaired)
Julcani Dist., Angaraes Prov., Huancavelica Prov., Peru
2.9x 1.8x 1.4 cm
$32

A nice (but repaired) reference specimen of apatite from a mine best known for producing sulfides.  Peruvian apatite is by no means common-- this one unfortunately has a repair, but remains a decent example of the material--and the cluster of arsenopyrite clinging to its side certainly add a bit of visual appeal.

CAC30 Kongsbergite
Almeria, Spain
2.7x 2.0x 0.5 cm

A nice example of dendritic kongsbergite from southern Spain-- technically it isn't really a species, but rather a variety of silver continuing about 5% mercury.  I suppose that would make it an alloy, but I'm not sure at what point an alloy is considered a separate species? (if you know the answer, please e-mail me!)

CAC31 Quartz var. Amethyst
Chibuku Mine, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
2.8x 1.5x 1.6 cm

A beautiful example of amethyst from Zimbabwe, with faint but beautiful phantoms, and on a thin sliver of matrix.  Zimbabwean minerals have not been terribly common on the market, I think the sole exceptions in recent years being chrysoberyl, euclase, and finished diamonds.   This piece comes from a recent find.

CAC32 Quartz var. Amethyst (Scepter)
Chibuku Mine, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
3.1x 1.3x 1.75 cm
$38

A beautiful example of sceptered amethyst from Zimbabwe.  Zimbabwean minerals have not been terribly common on the market, I think the sole exceptions in recent years being chrysoberyl, euclase, and finished diamonds.   This piece comes from a recent find.

CAC34 Liddicoatite Tourmaline
Anjanabonoina pegmatites, Ambohimanambola Commune, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Province, Madagascaraaaaaa
5.0x 1.5x 1.5 cm
$46

A nice example of a mostly opaque liddicoatite tourmaline, showing the steep termination characteristic of samples from the area.

CAC41 Wulfenite
Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
3.0x 2.6x 0.6 cm
$138

A sizable single crystal of wulfenite from Tsumeb, this one has an unusually light color and greater degree of transparency than one usually encounters.  Priced at $280 in my show stock, and considering the prices these larger thumb crystals fetch these days, I'd say this is quite a good price.

CAC42 Witherite
Minerva No. 1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA
5.6x 4.6x 3.1 cm
$78

A nice example of witherite, with a decently sized crystal somewhat sandwiched between masses of almost granular sphalerite.  You can make out the form and faces of the crystal quite easily.  This is one of the "other" minerals that the famous Southern Illinois Fluorspar District produced, though these days I think the frenzy for the more colorful fluorites from he same area has caused them to be overshadowed.

CAC46 Malachite
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico
4.9x 2.0x 1.7 cm
$39

A nice example of primary malachite form the Milpillas Mine.  The vast majority of the malachites from the location have been pseudomorphs after azurite; these primary growths have been somewhat less common, and as far as I know came from a find made about 4 years ago.  Minor scuffing

CAC48 Calcite incl Marcasite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United Stateso
4.9x 3.8x 3.1 cm
$39

A beautiful cluster of colorless calcite scalenohedrons with faint sparkles from minute marcasite inclusions.  This mine is best known for its barite, but in my opinion the true stars of the locality are its calcites-- they never seem to command quite the following of Elmwood, but the consistent clarity, luster and sharpness certainly make them among my favorite US calcites.  The main crystal has a partially flat back, where it was resting on the mine wall.

CSS05 Calcite incl. Marcasite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United States
6.5x 5.3x 4.6 cm
$62

A beautiful example of colorless calcite with marcasite inclusions from he Linwood Mine.  This locality is best known for its barite crystals, though in my opinion the true stars from the mine are these calcites-- the barites reach a large size and some have good transparency, but there is just something about the sharpness and clarity of these calcites that (at least in my opinion) makes them some of the best examples to come from he US.  This is a nice reference.

CSM6335 Dioptase
Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
3.0x 2.5x 2.5 cm

A nice sample of green dioptase on matrix fromt he famous Tsumeb mine.  Not entirely perfect, but I cute little miniature for the price.

CSM4551 Fluorite, Arsenopyrite, Quartz on Magnetite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Chinang
10.3x9.5x 5.0 cm

A nice combination sample from the Huanggang Mine, featuring numerous colorless fluorite octahedrons and silvery arsenopyrite crystals on a black magnetite matrix.

CSM4553 Fluorite on Quartz
Jiangxi Prov., China
9.7x 7.8x 4.7 cm
$78

A nice example of fluorite from Jiangxi Prov., with a green modified octahedron on a matrix of quartz crystals. The crystal has etched surfaces-- at some point it was coated with quartz and this was removed using HF, as is standard for many fluorites from this location.

CSM31037 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
9.3x 6.4x 6.5 cm
$88

A beautiful cluster of green fluorite crystals from the Xiayang Mine.  The piece is somwhatbetter than the pictures show-- the crystals are actually quite distinct but unfortunately they look somewhat more jumbled it he pictures.  Like many pieces from this mine, there is a degree of color shift-- the color appears most saturated under indirect sunlight or equivalent lighting (as pictured) and is at its least saturated in incandescent light.

CSM2308 Orpiment with Barite
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
3.2x 3.2x 1.6 cm

A beautiful, very bright orange example of well crystalized orpiment from finds made several years ago at the Quiruvilca Mine.   This piece has been coated with a UV absorbing spray to help preserve it from UV damage. Crystals of this size were never common at the mine, most examples tended to be pseudo-botryoidal crusts with thousands of small orange crystals.

CSS14 Quartz var. Amethyst
Chibuku Mine, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
5.2x 1.7x 1.1 cm
$78

A beautiful example of sceptered amethyst that also displays a degree of phantoming, and if you look very closely, a small enhydro.  Zimbabwe is a mineral rich country, but contemporary specimens from the country are not often seen, and what does come out tends to be a bit on the pricier side.  This is a nice reference piece form the mine.

CSS19 Fluorite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
7.2x 3.6x 2.9 cm
$48

A nice reference sample of fluorite from the Ojuela Mine.

CSS21 Mimetite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
7.4x 5.8x 3.3 cm
$62

A beautiful example of yellow mimetite on a limonite matrix from the Ojuela Mine.

CSS24 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
3.5x 3.0x 2.7 cm
$38

A nice miniature sized sample of fluorite from recent finds at the Xiayang Mine in China's Fujian Province.

CSS25 Fergusonite
Mogok, Burma (Myanmar)
3.4x 1.4x 1.0 cm
$82

A rare example of this rare earth bearing oxide from Mogok.  While have never been quite common on the market, the bulk of the examples I have seen have tended to come from Madawaska, Ontario.  These Burmese examples were found a few years ago.  Not terminated, but quite a sizable prism with very good lateral faces.

CSM6342 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
5.2x 3.4x 3.0 cm
$76

A beautiful example of deep green fluorite on a terminated quartz crystal, from Peru.

CSS28 Cuproaustinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
7.2x4.6x 3.0 cm
$68

A rich sample of rare cuproaustinite from the Ojuela Mine, at a good price.   The bits of purple showing up in the pictures are almost invisible in person, so assume that it is just green.-- I'm not sure why the camera picks up on the very faint bits of cobaltoaustinite so strongly.....

CSS29 Tetrahedrite
Julcani Dist., Angaraes Prov., Huancavelica Prov., Peru
3.6x 2.7x 2.3 cm
$46

A beautiful example of dark tetrahedrite on a matrix composed of more tetrahedrite.  When the piece is angled just right and catches the light, its luster becomes apparent.

CSS31 Andradite Garnet
Bendoukou, Sandare District, Kayes Region, Mali
3.1x 2.2x 3.2 cm
$38

A nice sample of andradite garnet on matrix from Mali.  This one displays best with just the main crystal showing (as in the first image) but there are other partial crystals on the back as well.

CSS32 Adamite with Calcite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
3.0x 3.7x 3.9 cm
$58

A nice example of yellow adamite combined with calcite, from the Ojuela Mine.  Usually you just ee one species or the other, not both in combination

CSS33 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
4.1x 2.6x 1.9 cm
$38

A beautiful miniature sized samples of light green fluorite on matrix from recent finds at the Xiayang Mine in Fujian Province.

CSS34 Scheelite with Fluorite
Chashan Mine, Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu Co., Chenzhou Pref., Hunan Prov., China
4.7x 4.0x 1.7 cm
$48

An interesting sample of colorless scheelite combined with light purple fluorite.  Contacted on the reverse and a bit flat, but still rather pretty and a very unusual combination from the area-- particularly with the purple fluorite, as most scheelite/fluorite combos I have seen incorporate green fluorite.

CSS35 Quartz var. Amethyst
Chibuku Mine, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
4.3x 2.4x 1.8 cm
$68

A nice example of a sceptered amethyst from Zimbabwe.  These have been intermittently coming out over the last couple years, though the prices have been a bit on the high side.  This one is not perfect, but is a decent reference for the price.

CSS36 Rosasite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
2.9x 1.6x 1.8 cm
$38

A nice thumbnail sized example of rosasite from the Ojuela Mine.  This one has pretty good color and is in exceptionally good condition-- they usually get scuffed rather easily, on this piece the scuffing is minimal.

CSS38 Austinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
5.6x 3.3x 2.8 cm
$56

A nice reference sample of rare yellow austinite from the Ojuela Mine, at a very affordable price.

CSS39 Cuproaustinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
6.6x 4.8x 2.0 cm

A nice example of green cuproaustinite on a limonite matrix, from Mina Ojuela.  This is a rather rich reference piece of this rare mineral at a good price.

CSM6348 Wulfenite
Red Cloud Mine, La Paz Co., Arizona, United States
1.4x 1.1x 0.4 cm
$34

A nice thumbnail sized example of a sharp orangey-red wulfenite crystal from the famous Red Cloud Mine.

CSS41 Adamite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
14.0x 6.1x 4.8 cm
$66

A nice example of adamite clusters scattered on a piece of rare sculptural limonite.  The adamite has a light coating of iron oxide that gives it an interesting color that is slightly more orangish than usual.

CGC14 Creedite
Mina Navidad, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
4.3x 3.3x 3.0 cm
$40

A beautiful radiating cluster of creedite from central Mexico.

CGC15 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China

Bendoukou, Sandare District, Kayes Region, Mali
5.8x 3.8x 2.4 cm
$48

A nice example of andradite garnets on matrix, from Mali.

CGC20 Calcite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
9.5x 3.8x 4.3 cm
$46

An interesting calcite specimen from the Ojuela Mine.  These are not rare at the site, but tend to be rarer as specimens because no one really collects them unless they are associated with a more colorful arsenate or carbonate mineral.

CGC21 Malachite
Nacheng Ag-Au Deposit, Yangchun Co., Yangjiang, Guangdong Prov,. Chinah
12.6x 9.5x 5.8 cm
$98

A cabinet sized reference sample of malachite from the new find in southern China.

CGC26 Quartz
Dongwu Qi, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
6.2x 2.3x 2.3 cm
$42

An unusual quartz example from a recent find near the Huanggang Mine.  These have the complex lateral faces and general appearance of the standard, colorless examples fro Huanggang, but also have light reddish brown color from iron oxide inclusions, along with a faint amethystine hue.

CGC27 Wulfenite with Mimetite
Level 6, America Poniente, Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
4.1x 3.7x 3.0 cm

A nice sample of wulfenite with green mimetite form recent finds at the Ojuela Mine.  Although most labels ascribe these pieces to the "San Juan Poniente" section of the mine, the actual location is "America Poniente."

CGC28 Smithsonite
Santa Eulalia District, Chihuahua, Mexico
5.7x 47x 2.7 cm
$54

A nice example of crystalline smithsonite from Santa Eualia-- most of what the locality produces is botryoidal, this "rice grain" (or any other visibly crystalline) habit of the species is not often seen from there.

CGC29 Fluorite on Quartz
Jiangsu Prov., China
7.4x 5.4x 4.5 cm
$58

A nice reference sample of greenish fluorite with light purple cores, on quartz, fro a recent find in Jiangsu Prov.  Not perfect, but a nice sample for the price.

CGC30 Mottramite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
7.8x 4.8x 2.9 cm
$48

A nice example of mottramite from the find made at the Ojuela Mine several years back.  The initial prices for these were insane, then they moderated somewhat.  No more has Coe out for some time, but the prices remain quite cheap for what are probably some of the richest mottramites to be discovered in years.

CGC34 Smithsonite
Santa Eulalia District, Chihuahua, Mexico
7.4x 5.5x 2.6 cm
$58

A nice example of smithsonite from Santa Eualia, with actual crystals.  This locality is best known for its botryoidal specimens, rice grain-like crystals like these are a bit rarer.

CGC36 Prehnite
Merelani, Arusha, Tanzania
5.2x 4.8x 4.0 cm

A nice reference sample of translucent yellow prehnite from the recent find in Tanzania, on (and partially included by) graphite.  Not perfect, but you won't find many examples of this material at this price.

CGC37 Topaz
Tepetate, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
2.4x 2.0x 0.75 cm
$44

A beautiful thumbnail sized sample of topaz from Mexico, arranged in a visually pleasing V formation.  These look a lot like the ones from Utah, only with a slightly ore orange tinge....

Yunnan Prov., China
5.9x 4.0x 3.7 cm
$42

A nice example of parallel stalactitic calcite growths with crystalline protrusions, from southwestern China.
