Conco Mine, Kane Co., Illinois, United States
3.7x 2.4x 2.8 cm
$34

CLF63 Celestite
Maybee, Monroe Co., Michigan, United States
6.6x 5.0x 3.2 cm
$58

A nice example of celestite from Michigan.  The American midwest is dotted with quarries that produce everything from roadfill to the raw ingredients for some toothpastes, at many of these celestite, calcite, and fluorite occasionally occur as byproducts. This piece comes from a quarry in Michigan, collected 20+ years ago.  Rather large/ elongated crystals for the locality!

CLF64 Danburite
Anjanabonoina , Ambohimanambola Commune, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
3.5x 1.3x 1.0 cm

A rare example of danburite from Madagascar-- what you see on the market comes almost exclusively from Mexico, with perhaps the odd piece from Russia.  This comes from he same pegmatite that produces the liddicoatites used to make the big slices.

CLF65 Alabandite
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Prov., Lima Dept., Peru
6.7x 5.0x 4.0 cm
$52

A cabinet specimen of rare black alabandite from the Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. While this mine is best known for its rhodochrosites, silvers, and silver minerals, around 2010 it also produced (what were then) some of the finest examples of this black manganese silicate. Interestingly, around the same time, there was also a discovery in Merelani.  Most of the crystals this specimen seem to be twins, as was typical for specimens from this find (though interestingly, not from. other localities)

CLF66 Manganocalcite
Racracancha Mine, Tinyahuarco Dist., Pasco Prov., Pasco Dept., Peru
5.1x 4.1x 4.6 cm
$48

A large (for the locality) twin crystal of manganocalcite, with a patchy bright pink fluorescence under UV light.  The Racracancha mine was reopened by artisanal miners for a few years around 2010 to obtain specimens, the bulk of what came out was pyrite, but they also discovered these interesting manganocalcites.

CLF67 Adamite
Dachang Sn-Polymetallic Ore Field, Nandan Co., Hechi Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China
5.6x 2.1x 3.0 cm
$28

A decent reference sample of a Chinese adamite-- they look nearly identical to the common Ojuela pieces, but the color tends to be a bit lighter, with smoother texture.  This comes from a small find made many years ago at the Dachang Polymetallic Orefield..

CLF68 Chamosite ps. Almandine Garnet
Michigamme Mine, Marquette Iron Range, Iron Co., Michigan, United States
6.1x 6.0x 3.4 cm
$66

A sizable example of this unusual pseudomorph, hosting a few (I've heard) almandine garnets that have pseudomorphed to chamosite. These also come from Michigan's upper peninsula, but are somewhat more obscure than the coppers and datolites.

CCA01 Fluorite
Auglaize Quarry, Junction, Paulding Co., Ohio, United States
10.5x 5.0x 4.5 cm

A very good example of purple on brown fluorite, from the Auglaize quarry in Ohio.  Therein purple crystal has a decent size, though is not perfect (that is why this is $115 instead of several times that price!).

CCA02 Pyrite
Huaron Mines, Huayllay district, Pasco province, Pasco, Peru
11.5x 7.6x 4.0 cm

A nice example of pyrite on matrix, from older finds at the Huaron Mine.  This was one of the many Maning areas that produced sulfide specimens up until the early 2010's, though which has stopped for the last several years.

CCA03 Spessartine Garnet

CCA05 Quartz
Goboboseb Mtns., Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia
7.0x 6.6x 3.9 cm
$86

A flower-like cluster of quartz crystals with minor lepidocrocite inclusions.  Because it is all white, i's a little hard to see... but the crystals grew in a. kind of "swirl" formation, giving it a very rose-like appearance .

CCA06 Celestite
Pugh Quarry, Weston, Wood Co., Ohio, United States
6.9x 4.3x 2.5 cm

A celestite from the Pugh Quarry.  This might look like your average midwestern celestite, but it is not! This locality is mainly known for its orange calcites-- celestite is quite rare from here! If you collect Ohio or Midwest, you know what I am talking about.

CCA07 Liddicoatite Tourmaline
Antsongombato, Betafo Region, Madagascar
4.7x 2.3x 2.3 cm

A nice sample of purplish pink liddicoatite tourmaline from Antsongambato-- better known for its rhodizite. Usually, these occur frozen in matrix as accessories to rhodizite crystals, but this is a decent example of tourmaline from this locality in its own right.  Very distinctive color!

CCA08 Pyrite
Duff Quarry, Logan Co., Ohio, United States
9.1x 6.5x 5.2 cm
$68

A pyrite lined vug in a sedimentary matrix, from Ohio.

Julcani Dist., Angaraes Prov., Huancavelica Dept., Peru
10.3x 9.2x 5.6 cm
$76

A group of tetrahedrite crystals on a quartz coated matrix. As is typical with Julcani, this piece has a lot going on-- the tetrahedrite seem to have secondary growths of other sulfide minerals growing on their surfaces, and in cracks. Julcani minerals are often have a very interesting and unusual display of paragenesis... this is no exception.  Sawn base.

CCA13 Pyrite with Calcite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
5.5x 3.9x 4.1 cm

5.0x 4.0x 1.3 cm

An iridescent fluorite from finds made within the last 3-4 years at Clay Center.  This locality is better known for the pieces produced at the end of 2006-- those with the brown phantoms.  This locality produces a number of interesting habits however, including these iridescent pieces.

9.7x 2.7x 3.8 cm
$74

A nice example of quartz from Huanzala-- sometimes you see (smaller) crystals with quartz, but you don't often see good Huanzala quartz specimens in their own right.  I purchased this one in Huallanca (the village just outside the mine) so I know it's not from somewhere else!

CCA36 Bournonite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.8x 3.3x 2.4 cm

A nice example of bournonite from Huanzala-- this is not a species that the mine is well known for, in fact the Peru issue of the Mineralogical Record does not even mention the species as coming from the locality. This comes from a find made within the last few years,

4.8x 4.7x 4.5 cm
$56

A nice example of galena on quartz from Bulgaria.  This one comes with an old Ross Lillie label dating it to 2003.  After completing his work in southern Illinois, Ross used to go to Kosovo and Bulgaria to bring back specimens-- his pieces always did have an extra "crispness" that tended to be lacking in the wholesale material brought over by others... this is a nice example.

CCA46 Pyromorphite
Moualay Bouazza, Meknes, Khenifra Pref., Morocco
5.0x 2.5x 4.0 cm
$54

A nice sample of pyromorphite from Morocco. Generally speaking, African pyromorphite is not common-- apart from these, the only ones that come to mine are from Mfouati in Congo and very old, rare pieces from Broken Hill in Zambia. More often than not, things labeled as "pyromorphite" from the continent tend to be misidentified mimetite (often from Tsumeb) or really ugly vanadinite (from elsewhere in Morocco.)

CCA51 Celestite
Stoneco Quarry, Lime City, Ohio, United States
7.5x 3.7x 3.4 cm
$48

A very distinctive celestite specimen from Lime City-- the various celestite and calcite localities from throughout the Midwest tend to produce very distinct forms from quarry to quarry-- this is a good example of one of them.

CCA52 Quartz on Sphalerite
Davis/Deardorff Mine, Cave-in-Rock Dist., Illinois, United States
11.4x 6.6x 3.3 cm
$82

An oddity from the Illinois fluorspar district-- a plate of quartz crystals. While common pretty much everywhere else, quartz was never abundant in the fluorite mines.  Very interesting locality piece.  This has an old Ross Lillie dealer label dating it to the 1950's.
