A nice sample with a thin layer of ths manganese phosphate on a rock matrix, from Namibia.

CXX69 Quartz
Herkimer Co., New York, USA
5.0x 3.9x 2.5 cm

A nice sample of quartz on matrix, from Upstate New York.  Due to their clarity and otherwise "sparkly appearance" these are referred to as "herkimer diamonds"... I assume most visitors to this website already know this, but for those newer to the hobby: terms like "herkimer diamond," "desert diamond" etc. refer to quartz.

CTC12 Pyromorphite
Bou Iboulkhir mine, Moulay Bouazza, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco
8.5x 6.7x 4.0 cm

A nice cabinet sized sample of pyromorphite from a small find recent in Morocco.  The retail is about double.

5.1x 4.8x 2.6 cm
$72

Thin silver wires rising from their matrix, from finds several years back at the Uchucchacua Mine, best known for its rhodochrosite.

CTC19 Pyromorphite
Gute Hoffnung Mine, Bleibuir (Bescheid), Mechernich, Eifel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
11.8x 9.5x 1.5 cm
$58

A nice sample of bright green pyromorphite coating a sandstone matrix, from a find made a few years back.

CTC27 Tourmaline var. Liddicoatite
Mt Ibity, Antsirabé 2 Dist., Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
3.6x 1.85x 2.1cm
$68

A group of reddish liddicoatite tourmalines lying flat against their matrix. Most are missing terminations, but still a decent reference sample, and siaplys exactly as shown.

CTC28 Barite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United States
6.6x 5.5x 1.2 cm
$69

A nice sample of barite from the Linwood Mine, with a doubly terminated crystal attached to a bit of matrix.  As with the majority of these, this can only be displayed from one side as they tend to grow flat against a sedimentary matrix.

CTC29 Tourmaline var. Liddicoatite
Mt Ibity, Antsirabé 2 Dist., Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
5.9x 4.0x 3.3 cm
$78

A nice sample of liddicoatite tourmaline on matrix.  The crystal is dark, but with strong lighting you can see it has a bit of a purplish hue.

It's hard to find matrix examples, especially at this price.

CTC30 Pyromorphite
Bou Iboulkhir mine, Moulay Bouazza, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco
4.5x 2.5x 5.3 cm

A nice little sample of bright green pyromorphite from a recent find in Morocco.  When I collected pyromorphite, I would sometimes hear of elusive "Moroccan pyromorphites" and they would inevitably turn out to be ugly brown vanadinite..... This time though, there is no doubt: these are in fact pyromophite from Morocco. This is a good example with numerous small but bright yellow-green crystals on limonite.

CTC32 Fluorite
Shangbao Mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Pref., Hunan Prov., China
4.6x 3.6x 3.5 cm
$62

A nice sample of purple fluorite with quartz, from the Shangbao Mine.  Please note: the main faces are mostly transparent and allow internal phantoms to be seen, but the edge faces are etched and somewhat translucent with a bit of a whitish hue from the light diffusion (that's why it's so cheap.) It's not entirely visible in the pictures, which is why I'm mentioning it here.

CTC35 Plumbogummite
Daoping-Yangshuo Orebody, Guilin Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang A.R., China
4.2x 6.5x 3.2 cm
$46

A sample of dark plumbogummite from recent finds in the Daoping area.

CTC37 Corundum var. Sapphire
Azrat Syed, Badakhshan Prov.,, Afghanistan
6.2x 1.4x 1.0 cm
$80

A shar, elongated sapphire crystal from the far northeast of Afghanistan.  The very tip is missing, but it's a bit hard to see.  Either way, an excellent reference for the price, and certainly cheaper than you could buy a comparable piece from a Pakistani dealer in Tucson.

CTC39 Barite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United States
6.6x 6.4x 1.3 cm
$66

A nice sample of barite from the Linwood Mine.  This piece has a doubly terminated crystal perched atop anther barite.  As with most barites from this locality, this specimen is only displayable from one side-- they tend to grow flat against a sedimentary matrix.

Pretty cheap compared to what I see comparable specimens being offered for on other websites.

CTC41 Fluorite on Quartz
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
10.4x 3.0x 2.4 cm
$76

A nice combination sample of colorless fluorite on quartz, from the Huanggang Mine.

CTC42 Fluorite on Quartz
Shangbao Mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Pref., Hunan Prov., China
11.6x 7.0x 4.5 cm
$168

A sample of fluorite on quartz from the Shangbao Mine.  The green crystals show the classic cubo-octahedral form that the location is known for.  Contacted on the bottom.  Priced below my cost.

CTC44 Sphelerite on Dolomite
Tri-state District, Oklahoma, United States (pre-1967)
12.5x 7.7x 5.0 cm
$62

An old sample of sphalerite on dolomite from the Tri-State district.  The last mine in the area closed in 1967, which gives some idea of its age.  The dolomite is best visible on the reverse.  There is some scuffing to the sphalerite, seen as white marks on the bottom of the crystal in the full-specimen photograph.

CTC48 Tourmaline var. Liddicoatite
Mt Ibity, Antsirabé 2 Dist., Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
4.6x 1.4x 1.2 cm
$62

A nice terminated sample of liddicoatite tourmaline from Madagascar. The bulk of the crystal is black, the termination is pink.

CTC52 Quartz
Mt Ibity, Antsirabé 2 Dist., Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
4.5x 2.1x 2.6 cm
$39

A floater (I think) example of doubly terminated quartz, attached to shards of feldspar.  The miners find these while digging for tourmaline.

CTC55 Tourmaline var. Liddicoatite
Mt Ibity, Antsirabé 2 Dist., Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov., Madagascar
3.5x 1.8x 0.75 cm
$72

A floater cluster of double terminated liddicoatite tourmalines from Madagascar.  Excellent form, but unfortunately dark.  With extremely strong back lighting it boecomes apparent that it is actually a polychrome, but for all intents and purposes, it's just black.

As i mentioned before however, it does have excellent form, making for a good reference sample.

CTC62 Quartz var. Amethyst
Piedra Parada, Las Vigas, Veracruz, Mexico
2.6x 2.1x 0.8 cm
$28

A nice little thumbnail sample of light purple amethyst from Mexico.

CTC70 Galena
Tri-state District, Oklahoma, United States (pre-1967)
4.5x 3.2x 2.0 cm
$48

A nice sharp galena cube on a chart matrix.  This is an older specimen, the last mine in the area closed in 1967.  There is a chip on the main corner.

CTC72 Vesuvianite
Mina Cantera, Casma Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
3.0x 2.8x 1.8 cm
$39

A terminated crystal of vesuvianite from an unusual locality.  These came from a small find made a few years back.

CTC74 Silbite with Chalcedony

$42

An interesting fluorite crystal with etched surfaces, and secondary crystalization along its edges and at its very top.

CTC77 Galena
Madan, Bulgaria
16.3x 12.3x 5.0 cm
$100

A large plate of galena, from Bulgaria.  Some crystals are very lustrous, some are not.

CTC79 Sphalerite on Quartz
Palomo Mine, Castrovirreina Prov., Huancavelica Dept., Peru
6.7x 5.7x 3.8 cm
$59

The Palomo Mine is best known for its realgars and galenas, the sphalerite is usually just a dull accessory on those specimens. On this piece however, the sphalerite crystal is actually quite sizable and lustrous, making it one of the unusal examples where sphalerite is actually the focus of the specimen.

CTC88 Cerussite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
3.2x 2.1x 1.6 cm
$36

A nice (and relatively rare) sample of cerussite on matrix, from Mina Ojuela.  For all the minerals that Ojuela produces (And the sheer quantities of them), cerussites have always been relatively rare.  This piece comes from a find made about two years ago-- they must have been working in a different zone, because they did not have the standard limonite matrixes that one typically associates with the locality.

CTC90 Quartz
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
4.8x 4.1x 2.3 cm
$39

Just a regular piece of quartz-- which is precisely why this is so unusal for the location.  Huanggang has produced tens o thousands of quartz specimens, and is renowned for the wide variation in their habits, and yet, "normal" pieces like this are seldom seen.  For one thing, it has smooth surfaces and a good luster (almost all have complex, copmound faces, and the bulk are fairly dull) and it also lacks the inclusions that turn so many examples from this locality green, or the etching that gives it a white core.

A nifty reference from the mine, special because of its lack of special-ness, if that makes any sense.

CTC94 Clinoclase
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, United States
7.5x 5.3x 3.3 cm
$58

A small cabinet sized specimen of clinoclase, from the now closed Majuba Hill Mine.

5.9x 5.3x 3.5 cm
$88

A nice sample of hubnerite on quartz.  Contacted on the reverse.

CWC10 Orpiment
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
9.0x 5.6x 2.4 cm

A nice plate of orpiment, with the mineral present on both sides of a rock/ barite plate.

CWC11 Calcite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United States
5.0x 4.5x 2.8 cm
$48

A nice sample of scalenohedral calcite, from the Linwood Mine.  This is the same mine that produced the spectacular barites.  Personally, I am more partial to the calcites--the barites were certainly impressively large, but the clarity and geminess of these calcites from that location makes them stand out far more, as far as aesthetics are concerned.  Interestingly enough, collectors continue to prefer the barite...

CWC21 Fluorite
Buranpur, Madhya Pradesh State, India
4.3x 4.4x 3.1 cm

An oddly shaped fluorite specimen from Buranpur.  These tend to have more elongated forms than the more common (and more hemispherical) examples from the Mahodari Quarry, further west.  At this location, the specimens are found under a layer of soil and typically have a weathered layer that is scraped off.  The rougher texture of this piece indicates that it has not been treated in that way, so the surface is natural.

CWC23 Alabandite
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Department, Peru
4.5x 2.7x 4.0 cm
$48

A reference sample of this rare manganese mineral from the find made about 5 years ago.

CWC25 Heulandite
Jalgaon Area, Maharashtra State, India
7.5x 5.2 x 3.5 cm
$58

This is probably one of the most common minerals from India.  If you dig a hole almost anywhere in Maharashtra State, and continue to dig deep and long enough (into the hard basalt with some serious tools) you will probably find some of this stuff.

All the same, this is a very nice, damage free and aesthetically arranged example of the mineral.  It comes from the collection of an Australian friend who mainly focuses on rare minerals...so  for him to have noticed it, it has to have been pretty nice.

CWC26 Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.2x 3.3x 2.8 cm
$29

A sample of octahedral pyrite, contated on the reverse.

3.4x 3.2x 1.4 cm
$48

A sample of Japan law twinned quartz from Madagascar

CWC36 Quartz
Pisco Prov., Ica Dept., Peru
4.6x 4.1x 2.0 cm
$44

A cluster of quartz crystals made aroud 4-5 years ago somewhere in Peru's Pisco Province.

CWC40 Quartz incl. Actinolite
Mahaiza Area, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar
5.7x 4.8x 2.3 cm
$48

A nice sample of quartz, turned green by (what I'm guessing) are minute actinolite inclusions.

CWC46 Azurite
Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
1.7x 1.3x 1.0 cm
$58

A sharp thumbnail sized crystal of blocky azurite from the world famous Tsumeb Mine.

CWC47 Pyromorphite
Bou Iboulkhir mine, Moulay Bouazza, Khénifra, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco
2.3x 2.3x 1.3 cm
$43

A nice thumbnail sized sample of pyromorphite from the recent find in Morocco.  Not typically available in this size.
