CAA02B Beryl var. Aquamarine with Muscovite
Huya Village, Mt. Xuebaoding, Sichuan Prov., China
7.2x 6.2x 4.0 cm
$74

A nice example of aquamarine from southwestern China, fromt he same locality that produces the famous orange scheelites.  This piece displays the characteristic tabular habit that aquamarines from this location are known for.

CAA05 Cavansite
Wagholi, near Poona, Maharashtra State, India
6.0x 4.0x 5.0 cm

A clutser of bright blue cavansite crystals perched in a nicely contrasting matrix, from India.

CAA06 Chalcopyrite on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
5.1x 3.1x 3.1 cm

A very nice example of chalcopyrite on pyrite, from Huanzala.  This mine is best known for the tons and tons of pyrite it produces, but it has also produced (or relatively rare occasions) good chalcopyrite.  This one isn't perfect (there is some damage) but it displays exactly as shown-- with the large brassy chalcopyrites aesthetically perched atop a cluster of ultra-lustrous pyrite crystals.

CAA07 Fluorite
Shangbao Mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Pref., Hunan Prov., China
6.1x 5.1x 2.5 cm
$100

A large fluorite crystal growing flat against its matrix, showing the octahedral modifications and complex faces that are a hallmark of the Shangbao Mine.  The orange comes from internal iron staining.  Excellent for the price-- these have gotten very expensive over the last couple years.

CAA21 Variscite
Lucin, Lucin District, Pilot Range, Box Elder Co., Utah, USA
5.4x 4.3x 1.5 cm
$64

A nice example of variscite from Lucin (the *other* Utah variscite locality) that displays a polished interior while retaining a portion of the outer skin of the nodule.  This allows you to see both how they look when they are found and what they contain within-- usually they are sold as slices with both sides polished.

CAA26 Silver
El Mochito Mine, Near San Pedro Sula, Santa Barbara Dept., Honduras
2.0x 0.7x 0.5 cm
$58

A very rare thumbnail sized specimen of silver from Central America.  Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua have numerous precious metal deposits, but specimens of those metals are almost unheard of.  This is an older piece.

CAA34 Copper (Carved Chisel Chip)
Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, United States
6.1x 2.3x 0.9 cm
$56

A mining relic rather than a natural formation, chips like these were the product of miners trying to carve large copper chunks down to more manageable sizes.  This was probably chiseled down 100+ years ago.

CAA37 Witherite
Minerva #1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock Dist., Hardin Co., Illinois, USA
3.2x 2.6x 2.6 cm

A nice sample of witherite from one of the mines in the now defunct southern Illinois fluorspar district.  A nice little reference piece for the price.

CAA48 Calcite
Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
4.8x 3.8x 2.6 cm
$38

A nice sample of clear calcite on a wonderfully contrasting matrix, clearly showing the doubling that you would see in on of those cleaved rhombs, though which you usually can't see in natural specimens.

CAA49 Quartz (
Dal'Negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
5.7x 5.6x 3.0 cm

An interesting sample of quartz from Dal'Negorsk, with an unusual iridescence.  This is the natural version of "aqua aura" or other thin film coated minerals-- in this case, I suspect there are subsequent generations of transparent quartz spaced just far enough for light reflecting from one layer to cause interference with light reflecting from other layers.  The end result are the flashes of color you see when moving the specimen around.  It's kind of hard to capture the color in the pictures, but they give some idea of what to expect.

CAA57 Tourmaline on Cleavlandite
Stak Nala, Skardu, Northern Areas, Pakistan
3.1x 2.6x 3.1 cm
$58

A nice sample of tourmaline on cleavlandite form Stak Nala.  The tourmaline is a partial prism, but it is terminated.  Stak Nala tourmalines are distinctive because of their dark shafts, with lighter caps-- usually green. This one hasn't been treated-- many pieces these days (especially the ones with the pink bands on the termination) have been irradiated.

CAA59 Fluorite on Quartz
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
4.6x 4.3x 2.3 cm
$66

A beautiful formation of fluorite on quartz, from Huanggang.  The overall configuration of the crystals is very aesthetic-- the fluorite is just a bit undersaturated in color.  Still, its a lovely combination piece from the mine.

CAA73 Adamite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
1.8x 1.6x 0.9 cm
$28

A chunky single crystal of adamite mounted in a thumbnail box.  Nothing spectacular, but they always seem to occur in sprays, as clusters, or as tiny crystals covering a limonite matrix-- this one was decently sized and isolated.

CFF76 Calcite
Thompson-McCully Quarry, Newport, Monroe Co., Michigan, USA
4.8x 4.7x 3.6 cm
$42

A nice calcite sample from one of the more obscure localities in the Midwesten USA.  There are a few more well known locations (Meshberger, Berry, Pugh, etc.) but the entire region is dotted with materials quarries, many of which produce their own distinctive habits of calcite.  Today there is little collecting thanks to legal concerns, but in past decades field collectors and mineral clubs were often granted access to collect specimens.

CFF79 Calcite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
5.7x 4.0x 4.4 cm
$34

9.0x 7.0x 6.8 cm
$110

A cabinet sample of tourmalines from Madagascar.  I have no idea which member of the tourmaline group these belong to (though they are definitely not schorl-- there is a bit of a green undertone near fractures.)  There is damage, but this is just meant as an reference sample of material you usually don't see.

CXX03 Manganocalcite
Dal'Negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
4.7x 3.0x 2.7 cm
$58

A nice sample of manganocalcite from Dal'Negorsk, with a nicely tapering base.

6.7x 4.6x 3.4 cm

4.2x 3.8x 2.8 cm
$110

A nice sample of calcite from this famous find of a couple yeas back.  The calcite is water clear when viewed from the sides, and you can see clean through to the back, where it contacted its matrix.  The back is not broken-- these were very loosely attached to their matrixes and retain a layer of included material, visible from the opposite side,  that gives them their distinct look.
