A pyrite specimen from the Viburnum Trend district.  Although the region is rich in sulfide minerals, galena and chalcopyrite are probably the first thing that come to mind when one things of the sulfide minerals from this mining district.  This is a nice example of pyrite.

A nice sample of calcite from the Meshberger Quarry. As is the case with most notable midwestern calcite localities, specimens from this one also have a rather distinctive appearance-- and this is a typical example. The elongated scalenohedron, tan color, and calcite overgrowths near the termination are all characteristic of calcite crystals from this locality.

An interesting example of stellertie from the area around the famous Rossing Uranium Mine. You don't often associate zeolites with Namibia, though you sometimes see heulandite and stilbite from the Goboboseb area, and then there are these orange stellerite specimens.

A nice example of this relatively new bluish fluorite on quartz, from the Brandburg Area.  This area is best known for its amethyst, but there have bee a couple recent discoveries of fluorite as well.

A cluster of quartz crystals, with small reddish lepidocrocite inclusions.  There is something almost rose-like about the arrangement of the crystals.

A shallow "copper skull" from Michigan's copper country, these formed when copper deposited between rocks, and the rocks later weathered away, leaving behind a concave copper  formation.

A nice example of variscite from "the good locality" for the species in Utah.  The dimensions provided are just for the larger half of the nodule (both halves are obviously included).  The way it is split and polished, while still being a complete nodule gives a nice sense of how they are found, while showing the contrast to what is inside.

A very old example of sphalerite from the Tri-State District, an old lead-zinc mining area in the Central USA where the last mine closed in 1967.  This one has sphalerite on both sides, the larger crystals are dark and the smaller ones show reddish hues.

A reference sample of bright reddish-orange jeromite on a cluster of partial quartz crystals.  Jeromite is a rare arsenic, selenium, sulfur glass-- in previous years you would only see it as a coating on small, individual quartz crystals. Recently however, there was a pocket discovered with larger specimens, and more jeromite. This is a good reference.

A lustrous example of botryoidal goethite from Wisconsin. Although largely forgotten these days, the Minnesota, Wisconsin, UP Michigan region were once the US's most prolific producers  or iron ore. This is reasonably pretty (as far as these things go) example from the region!

A cabinet sized specimen of stalactitic freibergite, with a bournonite cogwheel off to the side. Freibergite is a sulfosalt of silver, copper, iron, antimony and arsenic, part of the tetrahedrite-tennantite solution series.  At this mine, it sometimes forms tetrahedrons, and sometimes occurs as these odd stalactitic masses.

A beautiful calcite specimen from finds made last year at the Daye Mine.  This one has a nicely positioned crystal, and the main crystal is damage free (and believe me, damage free was not common...)
