CMM35 Cylindrite
Santa Cruz Mine, Poopo, Oruro Dept., Bolivia
3.3x 2.4x 4.1 cm

An excellent example of cylindrite, with numerous elongated crystals frozen in a sulfide matrix.

CMM36 Sphalerite
Shuikoushan Mine, Hunan Prov., China
9.0x 5.1x 4.0 cm
$68

A nice example of sphalerite on matrix with calcite, from the Shuikoushan Mine. This one has a single, nicely positioned (and relatively clean, by the standards of this mine) crystal on matrix with calcite and etched galena.

CMM37 Cassiterite
Weilasituo Ag-polymetallic deposit, Chifeng Pref., Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
3.9x 1.9x 2.1 cm
$44

A nice example of cassiterite on a bit of matrix that seems to be colored very lightly green thanks to fluorite. This comes from finds made approximately 3 years ago at a relatively new location in Inner Mongolia.

CMM41 Chamosite ps. Almandine Garnet
Michigamme Mine, Marquette Iron Range, Iron Co., Michigan, United States
3.3x 3.0x 2.4 cm
$48

A very sharp pseudomorph of chamosite after almandine garnet, positioned very aesthetically on matrix.  There is no damage.

There pseudomorphs turn up with reasonable frequency at small venues in Michigan, though I have hardly seem them available at larger shows.  Classic US material-- perhaps not the flashiest, but definitely interesting.

CMM43 Arsenic
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
8.7x 6.1x 2.7 cm
$88

A nice example of native arsenic from finds made several years back at the Quiruvilca Mine, in Peru.

CMM45 Calcite
Berry Materials Corp. Quarry (North Vernon Plant), North Vernon, Jennings Co., Indiana
4.2x 3.1x 2.4 cm
$39

A nice example of calcite from the Berry Materials Quarry in Indiana.  The calcite crystals display the typical rounded shape of examples from this locality.

CMM46 Hematite on Quartz
Dongwu Qi, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
12.7x 5.1x 2.3 cm
$68

A nice cluster of quartz crystals with a bit of hematite, from DongWu Qi in Inner Mongolia.  This one is a bit unusual because the quartz crystals retain much of their transparency.  Usually  the crystals are naturally etched in such a way that leaves them white and mostly opaque.

CMM50 Quartz incl. Chlorite
Val Guiv, St. Gotthard, Switzerland
6.5x 6.3x 1.8 cm
$58

A nice example of quartz with green inclusions of chlorite, from the Austrian Alps.

CMM59 Ixiolite- (Sc)
Namivu Pegmatite, Alto Ligonha Dist., Zambezia Prov., Mozambique
1.3x 1.2x 0.6 cm

A thumbnail of scandian ixiolite from Mozambique displaying the typical hemispherical form.

CCB01 Calcite with Stronitanite
Winfield Quarry, Winfield, Pennsylvania, United States
6.1x 5.1x 2.4 cm
$68

A nice (and old!) example of calcite from Pennsylavia, sharing a matrix with a druse of strontianite. This was collected in 1974.

CCB02 Apophyllite on Chalcedony
Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
9.9x 5.2x 4.0 cm
$76

A beautiful example of a chalcedony stalactite, overgrown with apophyllite crystals.

CCB05 Aragonite
Helmand Prov., Afghanistan
5.5x 4.7x 2.5 cm
$74

A very blue example of aragonite from Helmand Province, in southern Afghanistan.  You don't see a lot of minerals from this region, almost everything comes from the pegmatites in the north east of the country. The color is pretty good, not as bright as the pictures, but certainly more saturated-- and I'd also say considerably more saturated than the blue aragonite from China.

CCB06 Wavellite
Montgomery Co., Arkansas, United States
8.7x 3.8x 3.8 cm
$62

A nice example of wavelike, featuring multiple radiating clusters on matrix.  This piece was collected in the late 1970's.

CCB08 Albite, Titanite
Raurus, Salzburg, Austria
3.5x 2.0x 1.4 cm
$46

A nice example of albite with a druse of green chlinochlore (?) on certain faces, that gives it a nice bit of contrast.  There is also a tiny (~3-4 mm) titanite perched on one side.

CCB11 Galena
Sweetwater Mine, Reynolds Co., Viburnum Trend Dist., Missouri, United States
4.3x 3.6x 3.6 cm
$60

Two intertwined galena crystals arranged in a rather visually pleasing shape.  Older piece from the early 80's.

CCB13 Quartz (Japan Law Twin)
Tentadora Mine, Julcani District, Angaraes Province, Huancavelica, Peru
6.2x 2.9x 2.7 cm
$46

A nice example Japan law twinned quartz from Peru.

CCB14 Wulfenite with Quartz
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
7.0x 2.8x 4.6 cm
$46

A nice reference piece of wulfenite form Mfouati, with the bright orange wulfenite crystal over grown by drusy quartz.

CCB15 Quartz on Dioptase
Mindouli Area, Pool Dept., Republic of Congo
6.0x 2.4x 3.5 cm
$58

A beautiful example of grayish drusy quartz on massive green dioptase, from recent finds in the Republic of Congo.

CCB16 Strontianite
Faylor-Middlecreek Quarry, Winfeild, Pennsylvania, United States
4.8x 4.0x 1.8 cm
$58

A rare carbonate from an unusual locality, virtually every specimen I have seen comes from southern Illinois, with the odd piece from the UK. Pennsylvania specimens are a little less common, but still good examples of the species. This one was mounted in an oversized Perky box; I removed it but kept the plastic bottom with an adhesive label affixed. It states that the piece was collected on September 20th, 1975.

CCB19 Wavellite
Coleman's Prospect, Avant, Montgomery Co., Arkansas, United States
5.2x 4.x 2.4 cm

A nice (and old!) example of wavelike from Arkansas, featuring a radial cluster of the mineral on matrix. This came glued in an oversized Perky box; I removed it but kept the bottom portion that has an adhesive label affixed.  It states that it was purchased from Coleman for $0.15 (yes, fifteen cents) in 1975.

CCB20 Aragonite
Santa Rita Mtns., Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, United States
7.3x 5.0x 3.5 cm
$46

A nice specimen of aragonite from Arizona, collected sometime in the 1970's.  This is an interesting old Arizona specimen, so I imagine it would have more appeal than one of the more common examples from neighboring Mexico.

CCB22 Franklinite
Stirling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, New Jersey, United States
2.4x 1.4x 1.9 cm
$43

A nice thumbnail sized specimen of this relatively rare (except from this locality) zinc iron oxide, collected some time in the late 70's or early 80's.

CCB23 Willemite
Stirling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, New Jersey, United States
2.7x 2.7x 1.3 cm
$56

A nice thumbnail sized example of this zinc silicate in a calcite matrix, from New Jersey. This was collected some time in the late 70' sos early 80's.

CCB23 Natrolite
Houdaille Qarry, Bound Brook, New Jersey, United States
2.7x 1.0x 0.7 cm
$42

A rather hefty (for the species) thumbnail sized crystal of natrolite. The label on the bottom of the box states it was collected by an Al Bliss in 1972.  At the time, this would probably have been considered a major, major find for the species-- the Indian stuff was not yet on the market, an the crystal (even to this day) remains fairly thick, in comparison to those from other localities.

CCB24 Zircon
St. Peter's Dome, El Paso Co., Colorado, United States
2.8x 2.2x 2.1 cm
$54

A good example of zircon from an unusual Colorado locality.

Saranac Quarry, Tory Hill, Ontario, Canada
2.3x 2.3x 1.0 cm
$36

A nice example of a terminated zircon crystal on matrix, form Ontario, Canada.

CCB26 Zircon
Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Chilwe Alkaline Area, Malawi
3.0x 2.3x 2.0 cm
$56

A nice cluster of terminated zircon crystals from Mt. Malosa.

CCB28 Dolomite
Barett Quarry, Norwood, St. Lawrence Co., New York, United States
3.8x 3.0x 2.3 cm

A very faintly pink example of well crystallized dolomite from a little-known US locality, collected in 1977.  With the exception of old pieces from Brazil and Spain, dolomite is usually a boring matrix mineral (think of the old Tri-State specimens.) The examples from this quarry however, are particularly well crystallized.

CCB29 Beryl var. Aquamarine on Muscovite
Beauregard Mine Dump, Alstead, Chesire Co., New Hampshire, United States
3.6x 2.0x 1.9 cm
$58

A pair of beryl samples from the dumps at the Beauregard Mine.  This mine operated intermittently in the early 1900's. until finally closing in late 1943. According to the label, these pieces were collected on the dumps, and sold to the Gilsum  Swap in 1974. I left them in the original plastic box, it has a nice, vintage touch....

QCC27 Quartz ps. Calcite Apophyllite
Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
9.2x 4.5x 3.7 cm
$78

A very unusual example of elongated calcite crystals, that have mostly pseudomorphed onto quartz.  Viewed from the bottom, you can see that only the very core of the specimen is still calcite-- the rest has transformed into quartz.  This in turn has been overgrown by numerous apophyllite crystals.

QCC26 Fluorite
Lavrion, Attica, greece
3.5x 3.0x 2.3 cm
$46

A great "toenail" sized example of fluorite from a not-so-often seen locality (at least here in the USA).

QCC02 Chalcedony var. "Bamboo Agate"
Java, Indonesia
8.6x 4.6x 2.5 cm
$68

A nice example of a "bamboo agate" from Indonesia.  It is believed that these formed from plants that were gradually encased by the cryptocrystalline quartz (chalcedony) that crystalized out of water rich in the components of decomposed silicious ash, form the area's frequent volcanic eruptions.  The end result are these hollow tubes of botryoidal chalcedony (agate).

QCC03 Pyromorphite
San Andres Mine, Andalucia, Spain
3.0x 2.1x 1.2 cm
$68

A very nice example of pyromorphite from the early 90's finds in Spain. In the years prior to the finds in Guangxi that started around 1999, something like this would have been your best bet for a good green pyromorphite.

QCC04 Hemimorphite with Aurichalcite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
9.8x 5.8x 3.5 cm
$64

A nice example of well crystalized hemimorphite, from recent finds at Mfouati. This is pretty much white, if your screen shows blue, it is a mistake.

QCC06 Apophyllite and Stilbite
Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
13.2x 4.8x 3.2 cm
$96

A very nice segment of an apophyllilte/ chalcedony stalactite, with some pinkish orange stilbite.

QCC10 Wulfenite with Mimetite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
5.0x 4.2x 2.5 cm

A nice example of pointy bipyramidal wulfenite crystals with green mimetite, from the Ojuela Mine.

QCC11 Goethite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
2.5x 1.7x 0.9 cm

A very brightly colored example or iridescent goethite from Ojuela. They resemble the examples from Spain or Grave's Mountain. Normally I am suspicious of iridescent things, but iridescent goethite is not unheard of-- plus I think it would be difficult to get this variation of colors artificially.  Most importantly, a couple of the other specimens in the batch had tiny, but perfectly transparent calcite crystals the which showed no sign of chemical alteration....  After the blue hemimorphite and the kobyashevite I look at everything from Ojuela that much more carefully.....

QCC12 Quartz incl. Iron Oxide
Dongwu Qi, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
15.9x 2.6x 1.9 cm
$72

A nice example of quartz with a reddish hue, from finds made at a locality near the more prolific Huanggang Mine.

QCC13 Quartz var. Amethyst
Banska Stiavnica (Schemnitz), Banska Bystrica Region, Slovakia
8.5x 4.4x 4.8 cm
$98

A nice example of classic old amethyst from Slovakia. Evidence of mining in this area (for various ores) dates to the 3rd century BC, and most of the time this material is attributed to "Schemnitz," although today the area is known by a more slavic name. It's interesting to see the effects of past migrations in this once-contested area of central Europe, even in simple things like specimen labels. As for the specimen itself: a good, hard to come by example from a classic locality, offered at a fraction of what other sites are asking for similar pieces.

QCC15 Scheelite on Quartz
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
2.8x 1.8x 2.2 cm
$53

A nice example of orange scheelite on a bit of quartz, from he Yaogangxian Mine.

QCC16 Chalcedony var. Grape Agate
Mamiju Area, Sulawesi Barat Prov., Sulawesi, Indonesia
5.1x 3.1x 1.2 cm
$48

A very nice example of grape agate from Indonesia.  I buy this stuff in bulk, pick the best few to offer on the website and the rest gets wholesaled.  Of the several pieces I select, the big ones end up in the full price galleries, and the smaller ones end up here.  I generally try to pick the ones with better color, form and luster to post on the website... it seems odd, but when you see a lot of this you start to realize there are a few different grades.

QCC17 Hemimorphite with Aurichalcite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
5.1x 3.4x 2.6 cm
$48

An *actually real* example of blue hemimorphite from Ojuela. A few people may be traumatized, but this one is colored by aurichalcite, not a printer ink component.

As a side note: When it comes to Ojuela and fakes, a general rule of thumb is: if it is not something exceedingly rare (claringbullite, blue scorodite, etc.) be wary of anything blue that is not colored by aurichalcite or (blueish green) rosasite.  They have been playing around with copper sulfate down there for years (kobyashevite....) and this organic dye was just the latest advancement. Ojuela has been around for over 500 years, it sometimes produces better examples of the same old material, but it almost never produces something totally, completely novel in its own right.

QCC19 Pyromorphite
Broken Hill Mine, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia
3.0x 1.8x 1.8 cm
$58

A nice example of one of the characteristic pyromorphite habits from Broken Hill-- elongated, brown crystals.

QCC20 Quartz incl. Chlorite
Mahaiza Area, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar
11.9x 2.1x 1.8 cm
$44

A terminated example of quartz, with chlorite inclusions near the base. Usually these are somewhat smaller, and get polished.

QCC21 Smithsonite
Yunnan Prov., China
7.6x 6.5x 3.4 cm
$58

A nice reference example of smithsonite, with a slightly greenish yellow layer of the mineral on a rock. No unsightly bruises, as is usually the case.

QCC23 Xonotlite with Pyrite
5.6x 4.7x 3.2 cm

A nice example of this rare hydrous calcium silicte, with numerous white orbs on a matrix of mixed sulfides-- sphalerite, pyrite, etc.

CFC01 Fluorite
Yindu Mine, Chifeng Pref., Inner Mongolia A.R., China
3.8x 3.1x 1.2 cm

A nice, sculptural example of fluorite from the Yindu Mine.  It looks particularly nice with backlighting. It is not broken on the back,  there is just other material growing over it.

CFC03 Dioptase
Mindouli Area, Pool Dept., Republic of Congo
2.1x 1.9x 1.2 cm
$78

A nice example of lustrous green dioptase from recent finds around  Mindouli.

CFC05 Cuprite
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico
4.5x 2.4x 1.0 cm
$46

A nice reference sample of cuprite from Milpillas, with flattened crystals on matrix. In person, the cuprite looks metallic with an underlying dark brown hue, but as is often the case with cuprite, it looks very red when photographed under strong lighting.

CFC07 Scheelite on Fluorite
Dongshan Mine, Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu Co., Chenzhou Pref., Hunan Prov., China
4.1x 2.6x 2.6 cm

A nice reference example of light brown scheelite, on light green fluorite from the Xianghualing mining area. You often see light green fluorite from this area, combinations with scheelite are somewhat rarer.

CFC09 Cerussite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
2.8x 1.8x 1.3 cm
$44

A nice thumbnail-sized example of cerussite from recent finds in Mfouati.

CFC10 Cerussite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
2.8x 1.9x 2.2 cm
$40

A nice reference sized thumbnail of cerussite from recent finds at Mfouati.

CFC12 Hemimorphite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
3.2x 2.2x 1.7 cm
$38

A very nice miniature seized example of light blue hemimorphite from Mfouati.  Most of what is found is just colorless, this one has a light, but pleasant blue hue.

CFC17 "Mohawkite"
Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, United States
6.0x 5.9x 2.7 cm
$48

A nugget of "mohawkite" with one side sliced and polished, from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  These "mohawkite " nuggets are a mixture of copper arsenides, such as algodonite and domeykite.

CFC19 Celestite
Yunnan Prov., China
5.3x 3.9x 3.0 cm
$42

An cluster of rather thick, blocky celestite crystals from an unusual locality in southwestern China. Good reference specimen that is not from Madagascar or the Midwestern USA.

Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
8.5x 5.4x 3.6 cm
$68

A nice example of green cupoaustinite with calcite, from finds made in mid 2019.
