CXC02 Phosphophyllite
Huayllani, Canutillos subdistrict, Machacamarca Dist., Saavedra Prov., Potosi Dept., Bolivia
6.2x 5.1x 3.8

An nice example of phosphophyllite from the "other" (more recent) Bolivian locality for the species.   The overall form and richness of this piece, comprised of hundreds of twinned phosphophyllite crystals, make for a particularly fine example-- this one is notable for the nicely isolated cluster pleasantly positioned on its matrix.

The most famous examples were discovered between 1950 and the late 1970's, at the Unificada Mine in the same department, but until this find, the extreme scarcity of those pieces made it nearly impossible for collectors to obtain specimens of this sought after species.

These contemporary pieces obviously lack the depth of color present in the older ones, but are quite exceptional as examples of the species-- the richness and sheer amount of well crystalized phosphophyllite on these specimens is something not seen from any other locality.

Phosphophyllite from Huayllani first appeared on the market around 2010, then somewhat disappeared.  These pieces come from a more recent discovery at the same location.  Initially, they were labeled "Colavi" or "Machacamarca," but we now have more precise information.

This would be priced around $360 in the regular galleries.

CXC07 Creedite
Qinglong Mine, Dachang Sb ore field, Qinglong Co., Qianxi'nan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, China
3.0x 2.4x 2.7 cm
$58

A beautiful ball shaped, "toenail" sized cluster of credit crystals from China.  Most Chinese creedites tend to be a bit flatter, usually plates of crystals, often radiating out from a central point but lying flat against their matrix.  For China, this is a particularly nice miniature.

CXC08 Dioptase on Plancheite
MIndouli Area, Pool Dept., Republic of Congol
5.9x 4.3x 0.8 cm

A beautiful example of green dioptase crystals scattered on beautifully contrasting blue plancheite, from recent finds in the Mindouli area.

CXC12 Hemimorphite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
4.8x 3.8x 2.6 cm
$48

Among the interesting new finds from Congo are several habits of hemimorphite.  Most come from various workings in the same general area, and the appearance varies from plates that are nearly identical to the botryoidal blue material from Wenshan, China, to clusters of white crystals that look similar to the Ojuela material, only more robust (like this one).

CXC17 Plancheite and Quartz
Mindouli Area, Pool Dept., Republic of Congol
3.4x 3.2x 1.7 cm
$58

A nice example of plancheite and another green mineral overgrown by quartz, making for a colorful and rather sparkly specimen.

CXC18 Cuproaustinite with Cobaltoaustinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
6.4x 4.6x 5.2 cm

A nice example of grayish cobaltoan austinite with spots of brighter green cuproaustinite from finds made last year at the Ojuela Mine. A nice reference sample.

CXC19 Cerussite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
2.8x 2.6x 2.2 cm
$46

A nice example of a "toenail" sized (slightly roughly shaped) "sixling" from recent finds in Mfouati. It is a very good reference, when you see the average quality of material that comes from here, you gan an appreciation for the complete ones-- especially in the case of a delicate mineral like cerussite.

CXC22 Axinite
Canta Prov., Lima Dept., Peru
5.7x 2.7x 2.4 cm
$66

A nice example of blade-like axinite crystals, form finds made approximately 3-4 years ago.

CXC27 Hutchinsonite with Orpiment
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peruu
5.5x 4.0x 2.3 cm

A nice sample of the very rare thallium-bearing mineral hutchinsonite, from finds made a couple years back at Quiruvilca.  These were first found in the 80's and all but disappeared into collections.  Over the last 3-4 years, a few small new finds of the material have been made. This one has a number of bright crystals on a dark matrix.

CXC28 Parisite Pseudomorph
Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Chilwe Alkaline Area, Malawi
5.4x 1.7x 1.6 cm
$62

A decently sized example of a parasite pseudomorph from Mt. Malosa.  These are a mixture of goethite, quartz, bastnaesite, and a number of other rare earth minerals.

CXC31 Cerussite on Malachite
Mfouati Area, Bouenza Dept., Republic of Congo
4.3x 3.2x 1.1 cm
$64

An unusual example of reticulated cerussite, from an unusual locality.  The cluster is obviously reticulated, but is oddly rounded.  And the locality is also notable-- you don't really see many example from here, except (recently) for the darker smoky crystals.

CXC33 Parisite Pseudomorph
Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Chilwe Alkaline Area, Malawi
3.2x 2.4x 2.4 cm
$48

A rather sharp example of this material from Mt. Malosa.  They are a mixture of goethite, quartz, bastnaesite, and a variety of rare earth minerals-- the exact composition of each one is a little different.

CXC34 Barite
Sounion Mines, Lavrion, Attica, Greece
7.4x 4.8x 2.6 cm

A nice example of blady barite from one of the oldest mining localities on the planet.

CXC36 Orpiment
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peruu
7.4x 6.2x 3.5 cm

A nice example of lustrous and rather glassy orpiment crystals, from finds made several years ago at the Quiruvilca Mine.  This mine produced a lot of material in the 70's and 80's, and again for a brief period in the early 2010's, but the introduction of more advanced mining methods means that little to nothing has emerged int he last few years.

CXC39 Fluorite
Yindu Mine, Chifeng Pref., Inner Mongolia A.R., China
4.1x 3.9x 2.7 cm
$58

A nice reference example of fluorite from recent finds at the Yindu Mine.  These are notable for the rich bluish purple color, and clear phantoms.  It isn't perfect, but displays exactly as shown.

CXC40 Cuproaustinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
7.4x 5.4x 2.2 cm
$68

A rich example of green cupric austinite, consisting of a limonite cig almost completely covered with small crystals of the mineral.   This piece was mined in March 2020.

CIC05 Orpiment
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peruu
7.0x 5.6x 3.8 cm
$84

A nice example of orpiment crystals on matrix, from finds mate several years back at the Quiruvilca Mine.

CIC08 Calcite
Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa, United Statesoo
3.2x 2.6x 2.3 cm

A very beautiful "toenail" sized example of colorless calcite with minor marcasite inclusions from the Linwood Mine, located near the Iowa-Illinois border.  This mine received more attention for its gigantic barite crystals, though in my opinion the true stars of the mine are these calcites. There are hardly any other Midwestern US localities that produce such clear, lustrous crystals-- compared to the fanfare that pieces from places like Elmwood or southern IL get, they seem very under appreciated given their quality.

CICN12526 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
4.7x 4.3x 2.6 cm
$48

A nice example of purple fluorite, nicely centered on a dark matrix covered with very tiny quartz crystals.

CIC13 Chalcedony var.
Mamiju Area, Sulawesi Barat Prov., Sulawesi, Indonesia
7.2x 4.8x 1.6 cm
$58

A nice example of lustrous "grape agate" from Indonesia.

CIC16 Beryl var. Aquamarine
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
3.8x 1.3x 0.8 cm
$42

A nice example of aquamarine from Haunggang.  These aquamarines were discovered in the early days of specimen production, around 2010-11.  At the time they were quite a surprise, as most of the material coming from the deposit contained typical skarn minerals-- aquamarine is not one of them.  It was later revealed that the mine workings based through a pegmatite vein, and that is where these were discovered.   It is unusual to see a piece that isn't just a single crystal.

CIC20 Plumbogummite ps. Pyromorphite
Daoping-Yangshuo Orebody, Guilin Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang A.R., China
6.2x 5.5x 2.9 cm
$78

A nice example of light blue plumbogummite pseudomorphs after pyromorphite nicely positioned on matrix.

CIC22 Ilvaite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
8.0x 1.1x 1.3 cm
$78

A nice, doubly terminated example of ilvaite from the early finds at the Huanggang Mine.  Prior to this find, you basically only ever saw examples from Dal'Negorsk or Greece, with occasional antique pieces from Idaho.  The pieces from Huanggang reset the standard for the species--this is a nice reference, and these doubly terminated pieces were mainly discovered during the early finds at the mine.

CIC30 Quartz
East Coleman Mine, Jessieville, Garland Co., Arkansas, United States
6.1x 1.6x 1.1 cm
$26

A very. very clear quartz crystal.  There is small 1mm chip on the top-- still, it's just unusual to see such sharp, clear pieces.... In Madagascar I can search through burlap sack after burlap sack full of quartz crystals, and not find a single piece as clear or sharp as these Arkansas examples.

I honestly don't understand the pricing of these things... sometimes you'll see one the same size for $100, sometimes it's cheaper.... sometimes it's some exorbitant amount and they are priced by the gram.... whatever the case, I like my price.

CIC35 Smithsonite

$48

A nice example of green smithsonite from he ancient workings at Laurion, Greece.

CIC39 Smithsonite
Jean-Baptiste Mine, Lavrion, Attica, greece
6.3x 3.3x 2.2 cm
$44

A nice reference example of brown smithsonite from the Jean-Baptiste Mine, part of the ancient workings at Lavrion, Greece.

A nice example of green smithsonite from the ancient workings at Lavrion, Greece.

CIC41 Arsenic
Plaka Mines, Lavrion, Attica, Greece
5.0x 3.6x 1.7 cm
$62

A very nice example of native arsenic from the ancient workings at Laurion, Greece. This piece is best described as a single botryoid; from the back you can see the layered structure that botryoidal arsenic tends to have around the edges of the piece.

CIC42 Aurichalcite
Sounion Mines, Lavrion, Attica, Greece
10.3x 5.7x 2.7 cm
$48

A nice example of bright blue-green aurichalcite crystals on matrix, from the ancient workings at Lavrion, Greece.  Almost all the aurichalcite you see not he market comes from Mexico, tis is a nice reference from this historic locality.

CIC45 Zircon
Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov, Madagascar
1.4x 1.2x 0.95 cm
$54

A decently well formed, sized zircon crystal from central Madagascar

CIC47 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
8.0x 6.5x 3.5 cm
$38

A decent reference example of fluorite from the Xiayang Mine. Some are green, others are purple, these are some kind of weird in between.  A decent reference with quite a few crystals, at a good price.

CEC07 Cassiterite on Fluorite
Weilasituo Ag-polymetallic deposit, Chifeng Pref., Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
7.5x 6.0x 2.6 cm
$86

An interesting example of cassiterite on fluorite, from the Weilasituo Ag-polymetallic deposit, an exciting new locality in China's Inner Mongolia region. This piece has 3 main crystals-- there is damage, but it wa sensual to see them so spaced out.  Usually the crystals were much more tightly packed.  What is more, the greenish matrix-- likely a mixture of fluorite and mica coating rock, adds a very interesting degree of contrast that is not seen on cassiterite samples from anywhere else.

CEC08 Quartz var. Amethyst
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Chinang
16.6x 7.9x 3.0 cm
$125

A "pseudo Japanese law twin" from Huanggang-- while there have been quite a few Japanese law twins from the area, there have also been a quite a few examples that mimic them.  This one is *almost* a twin, but if you look closely you can see that the branch is not in the same plane.  Still quit nice, and doubly terminated, with a bit of hematite clinging on.   Priced at $250 in my show stock.

CEC10 Chrysocolla ps ????
Luputo Mine, Lubumbashi, Katanga Prov., Democratic Republic of Congo
6.6x 4.5x 1.9 cm
$59

A nice example of this unusual pseudomorph material that started appearing a few years ago.  I don't think anyone definitively knows what the chrysocolla has pseudomorphed-- some say malachite, some say barite, some say another pseudomorph.  Whatever the case, this is a decent reference piece, with a couple clear crystals on a very thin matrix.

CEC16 Bournonite on Quartz
Machacamarca District (Colavi District), Saavedra Province, Potosi Department, Boliviah
4.6x 2.3x 3.3 cm
$74

A nice example of well formed, lustrous bournonite "cogwheels" on a quartz matrix.  Not perfect, but quite nice for the price.

CECM6332 Chalcedony var.
Mamiju Area, Sulawesi Barat Prov., Sulawesi, Indonesia
10.2x 7.1x 4.1 cm
$68

A nice cluster of "grape agate" from Indonesia. It has slightly lighter color, but the form is interesting in that there is a cluster of orbs positioned on another more tightly packed cluster, almost making it look as if it were on matrix.

CEC19 Wardite
Rapid Creek, Yukon, Canada
3.2x 3.1x 3.2 cm
$39

A group of wardite crystals on matrix, from a remote part of far northwestern Canada.

CEC20 Adamite and Smithsonite

$58

A nice sample of lustrous smithsonite with minor adamite, from one of the oldest mining localities in the world.

CEC23 Fluorapatite
Foote Mine, Cleveland Co., North Carolina, United States
3.6x 2.5x 1.2 cm
$68

A nice "toenail" sized sample of pink fluorapatite from North Carolina.  This one has some damage, but is exactly as the pictures show.  You rarely see these for sale , and when you do the prices tend to be in the hundreds of dollars, even for a piece of this size.

CEC25 Pyrite
Maddem Lakko, Cassandra Mines, Aristotelis, Chalchidiki, Greece
4.7x 4.7x 3.6 cm
$56

A nice reference sample of pyrite from Greece.  If it were Peruvian I probably wouldn't even try to sell it, but for Greece, I would say this piece is quite sizable, well crystalized, and with a very good luster.  For what it is, it's pretty good... and try to find another one!

CEC30 Quartz var. Amethyst
Kingston Range, San Bernardino Co., California
9.3x 8.1x 3.2 cm
$78

A nice example of lightly colored amethyst from southeastern California.  Unusual locality.

CEC31 Gibbsite

A rich example of botryoidal, light blue aggregates of this  aluminum hydroxide coating a dark matrix.

CEC32 Ilvaite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Chinang
8.2x 1.6x 3.0 cm
$76

A nice, doubly terminated ilvaite crystal from early finds at the Hunggang Mine.  The ilvaite from this mine redefined the standard for the species; this is a good example from the mine, and somewhat unusual in that it is  doubly terminated.

CECM323XX Quartz ep. Calcite
Daye Mine, Daye Co., Huangshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China
8.1x 5.9x 5.1 cm
$88

CEC36 Columbite
Mahaiza Area, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar
3.8x 2.4x 2.7 cm

A hefty columbite crystal, showing good faces and overall form, from the workings around Mahaiza in Madagascar.  Not perfect, but a very good reference for the price.

CEC37 Mimetite

7.8x 5.5x 5.0 cm

A nice example of mimetite from Ojuela, consisting of a vug richly lined with yellow crystals.

CEC38 Galena on Barite
Lompret, Hainault, Wallonia, Belgium
3.2x 2.7x 3.0 cm
$28

A dark galena crystal, frozen in a barite matrix. From an unusual locality, by American standards.  Like Midwestern quarry minerals here in the US, these things are primarily the domain of field collectors, and seldomly make it to the international market.

CEC39 Quartz var. Amethyst
Chibuku Mine, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe
4.8x 2.7x 2.6 cm
$38

A nice reference sample of a sceptered amethyst from Zimbabwe; you don't really see much from this country except maybe old eucalse specimens, diamonds, and more recently chrysoberyl.

Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Chinang
8.4x 4.8x 4.7 cm
$74

A nice cluster of quartz crystals from Inner Mongolia, there is a partial scheelite crystal near the center/ rear of the piece. Quite sculptural.

CEC42 Cuproadamie
Lavrion, Attica, greece
10.8x 5.3x 4.1 cm
$76

A large and very rich example of cuproadamaite from one of the oldest mining localities in the world, literally in production for thousands of years. Oddly enough, you never really see many specimens from there, at least not in here in the United States.

CEC43 Fluorite
Lavrion, Attica, greece
4.8x 3.3x 3.4 cm
$42

A very nice sample of fluorite from one of the oldest mining location in the world.  It is a bit odd-- as many thousands of years as this area has been mined, you really don't see many specimens these days.  Here is a nice example of fluorite from the mine.

CEC44 Aurichalcite
Sounion Mines, Lavrion, Attica, Greece
5.4x 4.4x 1.0 cm
$34

A nice example of bright aurichalicte on a thin piece of matrix, from one of the oldest mining localities in the world.  Most of the aurichalcite you see comes from Mexico, this one is a bit more interesting.

CEC45 Marcasite
I-35, Temple, Texas, United States
4.6x 4.1x 3.6 cm
$54

A nice spherical cluster of marcasite crystals, form a very interesting locality.  This piece was discovered in 2017 during roadwork on the I-35 highway, just outside of Temple, Texas.

CECM61430 Spessartine Garnet
Tongbei, Fujian Prov., China
10.1x 8.5x 3.1 cm
$78

A rich example of a feldspar matrix totally covered with orange spessartine garnets, from the find made several years back.  The pricing on these things is a bit funny-- oddly enough, they are much more expensive in China than they are in the US.  I suppose the locality stopped producing, so they are considered rare old pieces there, while loads of it were exported to the US where they still remain reasonably obtainable....

CEC53 Bournonite
Machacamarca District (Colavi District), Saavedra Province, Potosi Department, Boliviah
5.1x 3.5x 3.0 cm
$48

A nice example of bournonite from Bolivia, with a single lustrous crystal positioned nicely on matrix.

CECM45508 Selenite
Las Salinas de Paracas, Pisco, Ica Dept., Peru
5.8x 4.9x 4.1 cm

A nice reference sample of very transparent yellowish orange selenite, from Peru.  The transparency and clustering makes it a bit difficult to photograph.
