CDC02 Fluortite
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
3.5x 2.5x 1.8 cm

A brilliantly colored fluorite crystal from erongo.  The crystal is not complete, but the color is really something-- Erongo's greens are among the most vivid in the world, when it comes to fluorite.

CDC03 Pyrite

CDC11 Bournonite on Pyrite
Machacamarca District (Colavi District), Saavedra Province, Potosi Department, Bolivia
8.5x 7.0x 3.8 cm

A very beautiful, almost flower-like cluster of bournonite crystals on a matrix of octahedral pyrite.  This is a rather unusual combination for this area.  This would easily be 4-5 times as much, except for bits of damage.   Sawn bottom edge.

CDC12 Fluorite ep. Muscovite
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
3.6x 3.0x 2.1 cm
$78

A really weird specimen-- this is an epimorph of fluorite after muscovite.  When I arrived, they had just started finding a bunch of these clusters of green fluorites on the south face of the mountain, about 1/2 of the way up. Most are somewhat formless clusters, but upon closer investigation, this one is actually an epimorph after an elongated muscovite book (one of that mineral's typical habits on Erongo.) Looking closely, you can clearly see the hexagonal outline of the muscovite that is no longer there-- especially when looking down from the top of the specimen as in the (bottom right image)

CDC13 Fluorite
Hardin Co., Illinois, United States
7.5x 4.4x 1.0 cm

CDC18 Fluorite on Quartz
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
6.8x 4.6x 4.3 cm

A beautiful example of small green fluorite crystals on smoky quartz. It's kind of a small pocket in the quartz, lined with crystals-- many have particular faces with more saturated color. Sawn on the reverse.

CDC19 Clinozoisite
Angelina III Mine, Pisco Prov., Ica Dept., Peru
3.1x 2.5x 2.3 cm

A nice reference example of clinozoisite from finds made several years ago in Peru.

CDC21 Celestite
Maybee, Monroe Co., Michigan, United Statese
6.1x 4.8x 2.5 cm

A very saturated blue cluster of celestite crystals from Maybee, Michigan.  By the standards of celestite from pretty much anywhere (especially the American midwest) this one just seems to have an unusually saturated color.  Interesting piece.

CDC22 Schorl Tourmaline
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
6.1x 4.6x 3.2 cm

A nice example of sharp, lustrous schorl crystals on matrix, from recent finds at Erongo, specifically the Rondeclip area of the massif.

CDC26 Sulfur
Maybee, Monroe Co., Michigan, United Statese
3.9x 3.6x 1.7 cm
$42

A nice example of sulfur from Maybee, Michigan.  This locality has produced some of the best American sulfurs, and some even rival those from Italy.... except it remains fairly obscure in the minds of collectors. This is a nice reference specimen.

CDC27 Hedenbergite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
6.3x 4.4x 3.3 cm
$56

A chunky hedenbergite crystal from  the Huanggang Mine.  Hedenbergite is a common accessory mineral int his mine-- it frequently occurs as a coating or matrix component with more desirable minerals.  These were collected early in the discoveries at Huanggang, I'm guessing there is a lot more down there but the miners probably focus on things like fluorite, ilvaite, or quartz.

CDC28 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
5.8x 5.0x 2.6 cm
$40

A nice reference example of barite from finds made over a decade ago in Peru. Some chipping present.

CDC29 Sepiolite
North Chungcheon Prov., South Korea
8.1x 3.9x 0.5 cm
$48

A natural example of this hydrated aluminosilicate mineral from South Korea. Sepiolite has wide variety of industrial uses, from acting as an absorbent to being a component of some cigarette filters and anti-caking agents.  You would probably have an easier time buying a container load of powdered material than finding a specimen. To that end, being is specimen is probably it's least "action packed" application.....

CDC30 Smoky Quartz
Goboboseb Mtns., Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia
5.4x 3.1x 2.6 cm

A pretty example of smoky quartz, from the Goboboseb Mountains.

CDC33 Cerussite
San Jose Mine, Oruro, Oruro Dept., Bolivia
8.9x 4.4x 5.3 cm

A decent example from an interesting new find in Bolivia-- brownish-orange cerussite.  I can't recall seeing any cerussites from this country in the past (carbonates in general are certainly not Bolivia's strong point)-- these are a little odd, both for their locality and because they have minute inclusions (probably some sulfide) that have colored them this way.

CDC34 Bismuth
Vilaque Rive, La Paz Dept., Bolivia
3.0x 2.4x 0.7 cm

An alluvial bismuth nugget, collected from a river in Bolivia.

CDC35 Austinite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
6.3x 5.3x 3.2 cm

A rare example of Austinite from Mina Ojuela. This species is closely related to the more common adamite, except it also contains calcium and has generally been much rarer at Ojuela.

CDC36 Siderite on Orthoclase
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
3.0x 1.9 1.1 cm
$48

A cute little thumbnail, with a disc of siderite perched on the tip of an orthoclase crystal. A great example of why I love Erongo-- few localities produce so many cute, playful combo specimens.

CDC37 Struverite
, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Prov, Madagascar
3.2x 1.6x 1.3 cm
$43

A reference sample (a little rough, but decently sized and terminated) of rare struverite fro Madagascar.  This is the tantalum, iron bearing variety of rutile.

CDC38 Beryl var. Aquamarine on Schorl Tourmaline
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
5.7x 2.3x 2.1 cm

An interesting combination specimen from Erongo-- many small blue aquamarines sitting on the tip of a schorl crystal. There are quite a few places where these two species occur side by side in abundance-- in Pakistan, Brazil, etc, yet somehow it seems like Erongo is the place where you more frequently encounter these more odd arrangements and overgrowths.

CDC39 Fluorite on Orthoclase
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
11.6x .4x 4.4 cm
$88

A nice example of small, dark purple fluorite crystals clinging to the sides of a slightly decomposed orthoclase crystal.

CDC41 Quartz, Apophyllite on Calcite
Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
9.6x 3.5x 2.0 cm

An elongated, flattened calcite crystal overgrown with quartz, apophyllite, and even a little stilbite. From the basalt quarries of the Deccan plateau. Many of these are pseudomorphs-- looking at the bottom of this one however, you can see it still retains its calcite core.

CDC42 Fluorite
Goboboseb Mtns., Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia
4.0x 2.9x 1.8 cm

A stacked pair of partial fluorite crystals, with very pretty color.  These come from the Brandberg area of Namibia, better known for its specimens of amethyst and other quartz. Reasonably large crystals, for the location.

CDC43 Copper
Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo
4.0x 2.6x 2.5 cm
$48

A very unusual copper specimen from the Democratic Republic of Congo-- despite being the site of one of the world's largest coper deposits, you almost never see the native element itself. This piece is a cluster of two rather large, crude crystal that have the very definitive outline of crystalline copper. The surfaces have a reddish patina that seems to be colored primarily by micro cuprite.

CDC44 Andradite Garnet
Bendoukou, Sandare District, Kayes Region, Mali
4.0x 3.4x 2.8 cm
$42

A cluster of dodecahedral andradite garnets from Morocco.

CDC45 Calcite
Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana, United States
2.4x 2.2x 1.9 cm
$32

A cute little calcite thumbnail from one of the many quarries that dot the American midwest. There are actually a few quarries in the vicinity of this town, the calcites (at least to me) look rather similar, so I'm only giving the town name.

CDC46 Marcasite, Ferberite with Arsenopyrite
Kami Mine, Ayopaya Prov., Cochabamba Dept., Bolivia
5.4x 4.0x 4.9 cm
$48

A nice reference sample of black ferberite with silvery arsenopyrite and brassy marcasite, from recent discoveries at the Kami Mine, in Bolivia.

CDC47 Fluorite on Orthoclase

CDC48 Smithsonite
Yunnan Prov., China
8.3x 6.5x 3.0 cm
$68

A nice example of slightly greenish yellow smithsonite from China.  China has produced large quantities of most of the "main" collectible mineral species, but smithsonite still remains one of the less frequently encountered ones-- except perhaps from this locality in Yunnan, which has intermittently produced specimens over the last several years.

CDC49 Schorl Tourmaline
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
6.2x 4.5x 4.2 cm
$46

A nice example of schorl on matrix, from Erongo Mountain.

CDC50 "Gitter" Quartz
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
5.3x 3.5x 2.9 cm
$68

CUU02 Copper
Phoenix Mine, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, United States
4.6x 2.8x 2.6 cm
$82

A somewhat crude, but rather large copper crystal still shows its overall form quite well.

CUU03 Aquamarine with Schorl Tourmaline
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
6.9x 3.4x 2.4 cm

A pretty example of a pale aquamarine nestled in the center of a cluster of dark, lustrous schorl crystals. The aquamarine is somewhat unusual for this location-- more transparent and with a dome termination.

CUU04 Quartz with Fluorite
Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia
5.3x 3.7x 2.8 cm
$78

A pretty example of a partial quartz crystal flanked by a cluster of green fluorites, with purple highlights. There is also a partial muscovite cast, where a feldspar crystal weathered away.

CUU10 Apatite with Quartz
Kami Mine, Ayopaya Prov., Cochabamba Dept., Bolivia
3.6x 3.6x 3.4 cm

A beautiful reference sample of apatite with quartz.  The top left edge is damaged, though in such a way that it almost looks like a face.  If this were perfect, the price would be several hundred dollars.  Even with the damage, based on pictures I saw from a mineral show, the couple other dealers who I have seen with these are asking much much more for (also imperfect) examples.

CUU11 Danburite
Dal'Negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
6.0x 3.9x 3.0 cm
$68

A hefty danburite crystal from Dal'Negorsk, Russia. most of what you see these days comes form Mexico.
